Product Details

Launched in 1960, the Accutron at the time was the world's first fully electric watch and the most accurate timekeeping mechanism ever devised. They are remarkable watches with a fascinating story - the tuning fork technology was originally developed for NASA because of its accuracy and was so advanced it had to be hidden from the Russians.

In the early 70's Bulova experimented for a short time with pairing their tuning fork movement that drove the hands with a quartz timekeeping module that regulated the watch's accuracy and labeled the watches as the Accuquartz line. The early watches in the line contained these hybrid movements.

Today's offering showcases this striking and slightly exotic solid gold Accuquartz that is in beautiful original condition acquired from the collection of note collector, Mack Davis. This would have been one of the high end Accurtron/Accuquartz offerings at the time and features the hybrid caliber 2242 movement. Photos of the inside available upon request.

It has its original Accutron band and buckle. Accompanying it are certificate, booklets, and both inner and outer boxes.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function.

Note that we have several other special Accutrons we are offering for sale from the Mack Davis colleciton. If you are an Accutron collector you don't want to miss them!

Bulova Accuquartz:
Accutrons were originally guaranteed to be 99.9977% accurate on your wrist (not just in a laboratory). The fact that they never needed to be wound, was astounding at the time and resulted in their sweeping popularity. In the early days of the Accuquartz Bulova mated a quartz timekeeping module to their tuning fork movement creating the Accuquartz and capitalizing on the popularity on the Accutron at a time when the quartz movement was beginning to take hold in the market.
