ITEM DESCRIPTION:

One exceptionally beautiful antique wooden engraved Italian-Rococo-style inlaid gaming table. It appears to be possibly European. It comes possibly circa the early 1800s. This can be put on top of any other table or ottoman to be used to play board games. It is comprised of four parts: a beautifully designed top, a gaming surface that opens in the middle and offers a variety of options for games, a glass top, and a magnificent turquoise mahogany cover. The beautifully adorned tabletop also offers the option to use it as a coffee table or a surface top to put refreshments on.

Certainly, a turn-of-the-century piece and possibly from the 1890s adorned with beautiful detail. The entire table weighs approximately 40 pounds. It measures approximately 30 inches in height and width, and approximately 5 inches in depth. It is designed and decorated with an astounding amount of intricate detail in the late-18th century northern Italian Rococo style with themes of nature and florals. The chessboard part of the table opens in the middle and offers storage space for game pieces inside.

Italian Rococo style is characterized by swelling, curved forms, terra-cotta construction, exposed structures, and complicated architectural compositions. A particularly prominent decorative motif used throughout Rococo painting, sculpture, and interior design is nature-inspired. Many of the curved shapes were based on organic shapes like waves, seashells, and other sea-themed motifs. Leaf motifs were also common, with curling vine leaves like stylized acanthus fronds. Although organic in inspiration, these shapes were often exaggerated and gilded. This unique gaming table outstandingly exhibits these features of Italian Rococo.
